WOW... Where to begin with this blog posting.

2013 was my very first trip to PantheaCon and after getting to experience it, it will not be my last!

Not only did I get to give my Visa card a work out, I also got to meet up and meet new friends in the process :) It really is a "Who's Who" of the Metaphysical Arts.

Ironically my teacher and mentor Cat Yronwode was there along with Nagasiva and I missed them completely. I feel like an idiot *facepalm*

I wasn't able to attend the whole weekend, but as always, I had snapped a ton of pics as well as contributing to the economy in a positive way. Supporting the Small Businessman.

While on my excursion, I was fascinated by what the various vendors had to offer in classes and goods.

I took Storm Faerywolf's (The Mystic Dream) "Witchcraft at the Crossroads" seminar which I found interesting as this was very different than Hoodoo; this was the teaching within the Blue Rose Faery Practices.

Also I attended Dr. E's (http://unnamedpath.com/) "Circle of Bones" in which we got to participate in a holy ceremony to communicate with the Ancestors and receive assistance and love from the dead. Very Moving class! Khi Armand (Conjure in the City) was a presenter as well!

I even had the blessing to get a reading from Mary K Greer herself! If you don't know who Mary Greer is, she is an A MAY ZING Lenormand Reader and I had to come back another day just to get an appointment with her... She is that good!

The really exciting part to my weekend at PantheaCon was hunting for "conjure goodies". And what a hunt it was!

I was fortunate enough that some of my favorite vendors were there with their goods for me to add to my Blog Prize Pack. This will be the biggest and most diverse give away yet!

My usual prizes are most always Hoodoo-centric but this time it will be a varied assortment of Magic/Hoodoo/Voodoo, etc. I am really excited about this one :) and so very grateful for the vendors who were on board and are supportive of this blog and the contest.

I am pleased to announce that my March Reader/Rootworker of the Month is Papa Curtis!

I had met Papa Curtis through another fellow rootworker via Facebook this past year when I had the misfortune of being "thrown at".

In case you do not know what that term means, it is basically a definition of someone trying to "trip you up", cause you misfortune and downfalls.
This is generally done when you have wronged someone else, or in my case, pettiness and jealousy.

While I had the tools and "know how" to cleanse and protect myself, sometimes your own works may not be enough and you may find yourself in need of some heavier hitting work.

Enter: Papa Curtis.

He knew the situation (pretty sure most everyone in the conjure community knew my case), listened to what was happening on my end and the steps I took to re mediate it. He felt compelled to help me and gave me some advice as well as made me a few custom protection items.

I will have to say I was in awe at his compassion, knowledge, and speed at which he helped me. Not to mention his generosity! It was HIS idea to donate one of his hand made mojo bags for this months Give Away :)

Also his idea as to the "theme" being it Tax Season. Genius!

A. I am not a member of AIRR. However, I support what they do and believe all workers should be ethical and professional. Persons who are not will quickly gain a reputation for the worse.

What kinds of readings do you perform?
A. I work with sticks (casting lots), pendulums, geomancy, chamalongos and cowrie shells.

Which of the reading styles you use are most popular with your clients?
A. The sticks and pendulums seem to be.

Who was or were your divination teacher or teachers?
A. Mario dos Ventos, Hans Christian King

Do you prescribe spiritual supplies for the people you read for?
A. Occasionally, if they come to me for a specific condition.

Do you teach spell-casting or do magical coaching with your reading clients?
A. Yes, I do. Not all clients want this, but when appropriate I do.

How and when did you first hear about hoodoo rootwork? A. Probably when I was a young man growing up in Virginia. People around me did things I didn’t understand. I thought it was superstition,but now as I look back it was actually hoodoo.

Who was or were your rootwork teacher or teachers?
A. Mario dos Ventos. As well, Cat Yronwode’s work has been a great influence although I am not a student. Her research has benefitted the community greatly. I have a Gullah friend as well who has been kind enough to share her culture with me to some degree.

How long have you been professionally practicing divination, psychic reading, hoodoo rootwork, or conjure doctoring for clients?
A. Since 2007 professionally.

What kinds of hoodoo spell-casting cases have you handled successfully in the past?
A. Many. For some reason I tend to get people who are in difficult situations, such as being crossed or having roots thrown on them. Business enhancement as well as legal case work also seems to come my way often. One other area is people who have difficulty with a piece of land or property- just recently, I helped cool a piece of property that had angry Dead on it here in the NC mountains.

Can you provide me with any references from among your clients?
A. Absolutely. How many do you need?

Can you send or show me any pictures of altar work that you have performed for other clients? A. No, I cannot. I was taught absolutely not to show altars or photos of my work to the general public. Of course, if you are ever in the area I’d be happy to show you in person.

What are your strong suits as a magical spell caster and rootworker?
A. I tend to get cases involving the dead or combatting witchcraft and deal with them effectively. Drawing business to clients, as well as helping them unravel complicated life situations also are two of my areas of specialty.

What are your weaknesses as a magical spell caster and rootworker?
A. I’m only 41, and have many years to learn more about the tradition.

Do you have any moral or religious limitations on the kind of magic spells you will perform for others? If so, what are they?
A. This depends. If divination indicates the work can be done, then I can do it. I’m not afraid of doing “left hand” work as long as it’s justified or deserved.

Do you work according to the precepts of a particular religion, and if so, which one?
A. Yes. I am a Kimbandiero, and a Palero. That would be Kimbanda and Palo Mayombe.

How long do you think I should have to wait before I can see results from your spell casting or altar work if we are going to have positive movement ?
A. Putting a time stamp on any work is not how I work. Usually works happen within a month (or a moon cycle), sometimes longer, often shorter. Each case is different. Usually divination indicates the timeframe in the initial consultation.

What could I be doing at home in combination with your rootwork and prayers to improve the chances that my aims and goals will be achieved? A. Cleanse, cleanse, cleanse. Many times just staying spiritually clean can alleviate many issues. Also, being in touch with and honoring your Ancestors. They are your Home Team, as it were.

If the spell casting or altar work I hire you to do is not successful, how would you suggest that I proceed next?
A. I’ve not had to deal with this yet, but in that case I would refer you to a respected peer or one of my godfathers. One of the reasons for an initial divination is to see whether or not I can do the work or am allowed to do so. If the divination indicates I cannot, then I won’t take the case no matter the amount offered. To do so would not be ethical.

Do you provide magical coaching services?
A. Yes, but only on a limited basis. I’m not interested in having a lot of students. Only a few good ones. At this point I have had only 3 students over the years.

As a Teacher, what would you advice would you give someone just starting out in Reading/Conjure Work?A. Cleanse yourself regularly. Have a plan to protect yourself from negativity. Get in touch with and honor your Ancestors. Take it slow at first. Choose what- and whom- you work with carefully. Keep it simple- sometimes, less is more. Listen to your Elders and Ancestors.

I have not personally had a one on one reading with ConjureMan Ali outside that of BlogTalk Radio (which was a phenomenal read BTW), but I have performed one of his popular Love Spells for Breaking Resistance in a Lover. *quite a spell!*

I went ALL out on this one and used a Jumbo Red Candle; the whole process lasted a total of 18 hours...
This included me running out in the wee hours of the morning to bury the wax remains in my front yard at 4am with a large soup spoon... Whilst trying to go undetected by neighbors, my roommate, or her noisy dog. It was "Mac Guyver Style" that's for sure!

As with all spells, it takes time to manifest your desires. However divination has proven that this may just have worked :)

I do, I belong to the Association of Independent Readers and Rootworkers.

What kinds of readings do you perform?

I do Tarot readings, Geomancy, Astrology, Scrying, Mediumship with spirits, Egg readings, Bibliomancy, Pendulum, Candle readings, and I also interpret dreams and omens.

Which of the reading styles you use are most popular with your clients?

Tarot, Candle Readings, Astrology, and Mediumship are by far the most popular with most of my clients though my clients from North Africa and the Middle East prefer my geomantic readings.

Who was or were your divination teacher or teachers?

There have been so many over the years.  I have had actual teachers who taught me the ways of card, star, and dream while I also learn by getting readings frequently. I enjoy exchanging readings with colleagues and often learn styles, methods, and new things from them.

Do you prescribe spiritual supplies for the people you read for?

I absolutely do. Prescribing supplies and work is a major part of being a root doctor.

Do you teach spell-casting or do magical coaching with your reading clients?

At my heart I am a teacher, so I do provide sessions of magical coaching. I tend to include an element of teaching in all my readings whether it is something like the history of a card, or how to perform a certain spell. For those looking for more one-on-one coaching I have services for that as well. I have learned a great deal of lore in my day and am always happy to share it.

How and when did you first hear about hoodoo rootwork?

Quite some time ago; I was adopted into the tradition around 10 years old when my first teacher found me tracing out magical symbols on the sidewalk in chalk. She took me under her wing and taught me to work roots and to conjure.

Who was or were your rootwork teacher or teachers?

Mamma Jay was my first rootwork teacher who taught me all she knew and I inherited my practice from her. I also learned from some of her colleagues and family who specialized in things like toby-making or the crafting of oils, or in specific conditions like a court case expert or love expert.

How long have you been professionally practicing divination, psychic reading, hoodoo rootwork, or conjure doctoring for clients?

Oh, I’ve been at this a long time. Many many years.

What kinds of hoodoo spell-casting cases have you handled successfully in the past?

I am what is considered a  gifted worker, a sort of prodigy and so I have a strong hand in all types of conditions and have been successful in cases ranging from love and reconciliation work, court cases, money drawing, working with the dead and spirits, to carrying out works of reversal, uncrossing, or revenge. As a result of this, I tend to take on the harder and more intense cases out there, usually referred to me from a colleague who knows I’ll be able to bring power to the situation.  

Can you provide me with any references from among your clients?

What are your strong suits as a magical spell caster and rootworker?

I am gifted for all forms of work so that involves love, money, revenge, uncrossing, court cases, blessing, healing, protection, success work and much more. I am especially good at getting involved when there is an enemy rootworker working against my client; I am able to go to battle for my clients. I also have a strong hand in working with powerful spirits of the dead and nature who I’ve formed alliances with and who stand at my side. And of course, I am a dream-walker which means I am able to enter the thoughts and dreams of others in spirit form to influence them for good or ill.

What are your weaknesses as a magical spell caster and rootworker?

None.

Do you have any moral or religious limitations on the kind of magic spells you will perform for others? If so, what are they?

Morally, I will not perform death spells for clients. I am a spiritual worker with a strong sense of justice, but do not feel I can offer death spells to clients. I feel it is unnecessary and there are many other options out there than resorting to killing work. I will however cross, destroy, and punish those who deserve it.

Do you work according to the precepts of a particular religion, and if so, which one?

I was raised in Baptist conjure and this informs the way I work hoodoo and so I will regularly work with prayers and the Bible. I am also an initiate of a mystical Middle Eastern and North African path that involves working with the djinn and angles. In addition I am a Tata, or High Priest, in the African Traditional Religion of Quimbanda.

How long do you think I should have to wait before I can see results from your spell casting or altar work if we are going to have positive movement ?

I tend to work with very hot and fast spirits who are able to move situations along quite quickly. That said, each situation varies and it depends on what we are trying to accomplish. Generally after completing a work for a client, I provide a check reading on how things are going and will also report when I forsee results manifesting.

What could I be doing at home in combination with your rootwork and prayers to improve the chances that my aims and goals will be achieved?

The best thing to do is to adopt an attitude of patient confidence. Go about your life assured of your success. If a client wants to do something I can always recommend various light setting and work at home which they can do. I may also send products to use at home.

If the timeline I provided after completing a spell for a client does not come to pass then they are encouraged to contact me and we’ll see what can be done and how to alter or add further power to the work.

As a Teacher, what would you advice would you give someone just starting out in Reading/Conjure Work?

Go slowly! There is no rush to learning these spiritual arts. Take your time and learn something thoroughly rather than swiftly. Do not be afraid to seek out the guidance of those more skilled or knowledgeable than you and keep steadfast to your work. With patience, diligence, and faith mountains can be moved.

It is also important to be a part of a community. The path of conjure and being a reader has a very important social function and so find colleagues who will walk with you on the path, teachers who will guide you, and friends who will celebrate in your successes.

Not long ago I had met Miss Melanie via Facebook; through a common interest in Conjure and Lucky Mojo.

It was at this time I was going through a rough time (seems fairly often now that I look at that), and she stepped in with a helping hand.
